Design of a 24 hour counter with logic ICs

The main objective of this project was to design a 24 hour clock using integrated circuits. The clock consists of 6 large seven segment displays that are visible from 100m away when they are turned on. A combination of logical AND gates,SN7408, and OR gate,SN7432 ICs, were used as well as a BCD decoder,SN7447 IC, which was interfaced with the seven segments to turn it on. The segments are arranged from the seconds hand from right to left. The leftmost digits consist of the hour counters. There are also 3 reset buttons that are used for allowing the user to set the time to their prefered seconds, minutes or hours. In addition, we also designed a 15 minutes counter that beeps a buzzer once the counter counts up to 15 with the aid of a D flip flop. How the clock works is simple, the ones hand of the seconds counter counts to 9 and clocks the tens hand which counts to 5 to give us 59 seconds. When it gets to 59 secs the minute hand is clocked and when it also gets to 59 minutes the hour hand is clocked until it reaches 23 hours and 59 minutes then the clock resets to 00:00:00. One other important thing is that this clock will be able to take power from the mains at about 240V. The measures taken to build this clock was based on precision and or accuracy with which the clock is able to count. Accuracy in timing is important because it is used in various sporting activities where competition winners are judged based on the times they were able to complete a task.
